20 of the best books for you to enjoy this summer

Sharing is caring!

If you have been a reader of my blog for awhile now then you probably know that I love reading. I think that it is a great way to unwind and destress and something that everyone should try to make a little bit of time for in their lives. I thought I should share some books you are going to love reading.

There are so many great books out there and the shame is that it would be impossible to read them all. That’s why I am always looking for good books to read and when I have read a lot and have some good ones to share I like to put together a post for my readers. So that if you are looking for a new read you have some good ideas. I find books to read on Goodreads, Brit and Co does lists of great books and I have found some great books that way. I’m a huge fan of the fact that Reese Witherspoon shares books on her Instagram. You can check it out here. I’ve gotten so many great recommendations from Reese’s new book club.  Also, Modern Mrs. Darcy is a great resource for new books. She just put out her Summer reading guide which is fantastic.

So here are some of the books I’ve recently read and love as well as some books that are on my to be read list this summer. I’m behind on my goal to read 55 books this year so I plan to do a lot of reading this summer. I think these are 25 books you are going to love reading.

1 Everless by Sara Holland

This was a good book and the beginning of a new YA series. I tend to like YA books especially ones like this book that are in the fantasy genre. This would make a great summer read because it’s not too serious and it’s a quick read. I’m excited for the next book to come out in a few months to continue the story.

3. Pretty Girls by Laren Slaughter

This is a fantastic Psychological thriller. More than 20 years ago the teenage sister of Claire and Lydia vanished. Now their lives could not be more different and they are estranged. Both still grieving the loss of their missing sister.

4. An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

This book is not one of my typical reads. I heard good reviews about it and wanted to give it a try. I tend to read similar books a lot of the time and it’s a good idea to try out different authors and genres to mix it up.

Newlyweds Celestial and Roy are living the American dream in the South and life is going pretty well. Then Roy is convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. This throws their idyllic life way off track. This story tells their story of trying to make the best of a horrible situation.

5. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

One of the best books I’ve read this year. I read a book by this author last year and when I heard they had this book too I added it right to my list. I’m so glad I did because it was a good book.

This is the story of four friends, known as the liars, and what happens after lies, an accident, a secret and more lies. This book is surprising and was so hard to put down.

Goodreads rating: 3.85/5

6. Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis This book was popping up all over social media from other bloggers I follow talking about how great it was.

I  love a good self-improvement book and Girl Wash your Face delivers. It’s all about how to stop believing all those lies about who you are so that you are able to become the person you are meant to be. This book will get you to think and to figure out the things that have been holding you back.

Goodreads rating:4.36/5

7. Defy The Stars by Claudia Gray

I am currently reading the sequel to this book Defy the Worlds. I just needed to continue the story. Sometimes books have sequels and you kind of feel like is there really that much more story to tell. This book has lots more to tell and the second book is fantastic so far.

This sci-fi thriller is the story of Noemi a girl who lives on Genesis a planet that is an enemy of Earth. She meets Abel a machine so highly advanced he’s practically human. They start off on an adventure across the galaxy together as they learn to trust each other and discover that there is a lot that they don’t know.

Goodreads rating:4.03/5

8. The Perfect Mother by Aimee Molloy

This book is being made into a movie starring Kerry Washington from Scandal. I’m excited to see it when it comes out.

This book i about the May Mother’s a group of women who get together because they all gave birth to babies in the same month. They decide to have a mom’s night out and while out one of the babies is kidnapped while with his sitter. All their lives are thrown into this mystery of what happened to the baby. Along the investigation and search for baby Midas lots of secrets are exposed and relationships and friendships are tested.

9. Lucky Bitch  by Denise Duffield-Thomas

This book is about breaking down some of your money blocks so you can start manifesting a better and more successful life. I am a big fan of Denise’s and have been for awhile. This book was really helpful in my life and I learned a lot about how I’ve been blocking my success. I’m still working on fixing my blocks to make my life even better.

10 Lies that Bind Us by Andrew Hart

This was a dark and kind of disturbing book at times but the story was intriguing and I felt I needed to keep reading it because I had to figure out the mystery. As someone who reads a lot I can usually figure out what’s going on pretty quickly in a book but it took me a while for this thriller which was good. It allowed me to stay invested and read the book very quickly.

Goodreads rating:3.78/5

11 Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney

The description of this book intrigued me so much that I knew I had to read it. Here is the beginning of the description.  My name is Amber Reynolds. there are three things you should know about me: 1. I’m in a coma. 2. My husband doesn’t love me anymore. 3. Sometimes I lie.

Amber wakes up in a coma and is unable to speak but can hear the people around her. She doesn’t know what happened to her but she is suspicious that her husband may have had something to do with it. This book alternates between the present, the week before the accident and her childhood.

Goodreads rating:3.91/5

12.  The Wife Between us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

This book is a perfect twisty summer read. When you read this book you will make a lot of assumptions. You will assume you are reading about a jealous wife and her obsession with her replacement. You will assume you are reading about a woman about to enter a new marriage with the man she loves. You will assume the first wife was a disaster and that the husband was well rid of her. You will assume you know the motives, the history, the anatomy of the relationships. Assume nothing.

Goodreads rating:3.88/5

13.Still Me by JoJo Moyes

This is the follow up to the books Me Before You and After You. It continues the story of Louisa Clarke as she moves to New York Story. This was a very enjoyable read and I like the character of Louisa and liked finding out what she was doing and how her story moved forward. I think the first book is definitely the best in the series but they are all good reads.

Goodreads rating:4.25/5

14. The Woman in the Window by A J Finn

This book is currently being made into a movie and the book is s good. I’m excited to see what they do with a movie.

The book is about the character Anna. a recently separated woman living on her own. She drinks too much and has severe Agoraphobia so she rarely leaves her home. One day while looking out the window she appears to see a murder take place at a neighbor’s home.

Not being the most believable or trustworthy witness her story is not accepted right away. So she tries to piece together what she saw and what is the truth. This is a very fast paced read that keeps you wanting to read more to find out what is going on.
