The books I read in August

Sharing is caring!

I set a goal to finish 75 books in 2019 and a second goal that 25 of those books will be self-help or educational. Those type of books inspire me and help me with blogging so I wanted to make sure a good amount of my total books read come from that area.

By the way, I’m truly loving using GoodReads to track my reading. You all were right! It is really motivational to see my progress! I’m a little behind where I should be towards my reading goal but I’ve been reading a ton in September so far. So I’m confident I will catch up.

I wanted to start sharing every month what I’ve read and how I liked them. I find so many great books from other bloggers and on Instagram so I wanted to start sharing mine.

I finished 4 books in June —- which is ok! Here’s what I read + my honest thoughts on each of the books:

Where’d you go Bernadette by Marie Semple

I bought this book forever ago and never got around to reading it for some reason. I have a really huge backlog of books that I own either digitally or physically that I need to get around to reading.

When the previews for this movie started coming on I remembered that I had this book and wanted to read it. I still want to see the movie and I did enjoy the book.

It was funny and a little silly which was a different type of book for me. I tend to read a lot of thrillers and YA books and not as often funny books and I should because I really enjoyed it.

My rating 4 stars

2. The Widow by Fiona Barton

This was my least favorite book of the month. Not that it was a bad read but it was just more ok. I read a lot of thrillers and mysteries and this one just did not grab me like so many others have.

Right now the Kindle edition is only $2 and I think that is what I paid for it. So when I get a good deal on a book I just want to enjoy it and it doesn’t have to be amazing.

3. Never Have I Ever by Joshilyn Jackson

Never Have I Ever just came out this summer and I follow a lot of book readers on Instagram and after seeing it mentioned multiple times with great reviews I knew I really wanted to read it.

This book was so good and I read it very quickly. You will become sucked into the life of Amy and how her secret past may be exposed to her new life and how that may ruin things in her family and her friendships.

My rating 5 stars

4. Almost Sisters by Joshilyn Jackson

After reading Never Have I Ever I realized I had another of Joshilyn Jackson’s books on my Kindle that hadn’t been read. So I read this book next and this book was also so great and one of my favorite reads of 2019 so far.

This book tackles the complexity of family, relationships, friendships, and race issues. It’s been described as the Help meets Comic Con and that is accurate.

What have you been reading? Any books you think I need to read soon? I’d love to know!
